Description
Holy Maidenhood or Babylon’s Men of Clay
18 x 24 inch Oil / Acrylic on canvas
Stretcher depth: 1.5 inches
From the Anchoreta collection. an exhibition inspired by 13th Century books and various documentation of various Anchoresses and Anchorites lives, philosophies and stories. People who locked themselves away from the rest of the world to be one with God.
The book of Holy Maidenhood described why a woman might choose such a lifestyle as an Anchoress. In the 13th Century a woman’s alternative was to live a life of servitude or be married off usually at a very young age to someone they were not in love with. The book argues it is maybe better then, to serve God by developing one’s perfection and live a life of prayer than serve Babylon’s Men of Clay!!
*All Art of Melush paintings are not framed but are stretched and ready to hang. The painted image extends around the sides of the stretcher.
